Wristbands Around the World
Wristbands are made from many materials, the most common being tyvek, plastic, silicone, rubber, paper & fabric.
All of these wristband types seem to have an endless number of variations. Essentially, wristbands may be grouped into three main areas Hospital, Entertainment & Charity & as wristbands have evolved they can be at various stages of maturity or acceptance.
In some poorer countries the concept of wristbands would not even be considered & Hospitals historically have led the way in introducing wristbands via aid agencies. Did you know before the introduction of wristbands, some Indian Hospitals wrote the patients name on bandages.
Now, although not widely accepted yet RFID ID bands have been implemented in some Hospitals from the USA to Europe to Taiwan. The major reason they are not more widespread is the cost of infrastructure to support the RFID wristbands.
Most of the worlds wristbands are produced in the USA & Asia. The common factor regardless of wristband type is that when exported, the currency which dominates is the US Dollar. Recent major fluctuations in currencies around the world, will see countries like Australia, seeking to produce their own wristbands in order to gain better control over their pricing, rather than risk widely fluctuating costs in importing wristbands from overseas.
