Tyvek Wristbands
Overview
Tyvek wristbands have become increasingly popular over the last decade, Tyvek wristbands are supplied more than any other style wristband. Up until the turn of the century Plastic wristbands were dominant, but they have been replaced in turn by 25mm tyvek wristbands which have now been surpassed by 19mm tyvek wristbands.
Economics has obviously played a part as plastic wristbands can be more than twice the price & depending on the users requirements can represent excellent value for money, Tyvek wristbands are not considered as secure as Plastic wristbands both in longevity & security, as the plastic snap of the plastic wristbands is often perceived to offer a harder deterent than the adhesive closures used with tyvek wristbands.
Tyvek is also a good material to imprint text & images, with Black being the dominant imprint colour. Barcodes have been printed on tyvek wristbands, but there is an ongoing question mark on the reliability of the barcodes & other wristbands such as the Image & Digital have been preferred if a barcode is required.
Serial numbers are offered with most tyvek wristbands.

Tyvek is made by Dupont. It is comprised of super fine high density polyethelene fibres. Originally devised as a protective material it contains many of the best characteristics of paper, fabric & film all in the one material.
Unlike other materials this balance of properties makes Tyvek very strong while remaining lightweight. It is also vapour permeable, water & chemical resistant but tough enough to remain, abrasion, puncture & tear resistant.
Tyvek is a spun bonded olefin which is non toxic & when laboratory tested did not produce any skin reactions.

Tyvek wristbands generally are supplied in two main styles, one is a continuous form which is fan folded & often makes allowance for dot matrix printers as they have pinwheel holes on each side. The other style which has greater popularity, is the Sheeted tyvek wristband, due to its ease of use for printing & separating. Tyvek wristbands come in two main widths 19mm & 25mm each around 250mm long.
Variations both in width & length are not uncommon with tyvek wristbands 12.5mm wide having a small market share, but in most cases it is seen as impractical for identification & especially security purposes. Larger lengths of 30mm long tyvek wristbands can be used in conjunction with tear off tags complete with an identical serial number on each section.
Regardless of length or width all tyvek wristbands are non stretch, made from tyvek & have a tamper evident area at one end, this is a security cut designed to split & tear if an attempt is made to remove the wristband. Each tyvek wristband also has a peel off tab underneath the security cut which when removed exposes the adhesive area & allows the length of the wristband to be adjusted to the wearers requirements.
It is likely in the future an alternative will become available, where a tab is not required to secure the wristband. Helping make these wristband eco friendly. Tyvek wristbands are held together by perforations which are easy to separate, simply by pulling the individual wristband away from its neighbour.
